ha ha ha- kinda premature to start talking about a fluke dont you think? He came widest off the turn and was making up ground at the wire. Only his second trip going two turns and the track was playing fast. I still think he can mix it up come May 2nd.

HE did not break his leg he fractured a knee bone and is going to require surgery. It is not known for sure if he will be retired or not, depends on what the vets say. He could rest up and return to racing later this year or next(if they decide to let him run next year that is).

It's a shame that Old Fashioned got injured. I hope that everything goes well with his surgery. I feel bad for Larry Jones though with everything that he's been through in the last year with Eight Belles and everything. However, pretty impressive performance by Papa Clem. Should be tough at Churchill. Also, watch out for Summer Bird. He made up a lot of ground to finish third and was still coming at the end. He's #21 on the graded earnings list so, hopefully he'll be able to get into the field.

I think Rick Porter should stop buying Unbridled's Song's because they are fragile. Both Eight Belles and Old Fashioned were by him. Taking nothing away from the sire but that certain line carries fragile horses. That's why I like the Papa. He is muscular looking, not lean and skinny. Like Curlin :)

old fashioned showed true grit in this race..if he hadn't gotten hurt who is to say where he would be.he will make a great sire i do not know how anyone could knock him..he was never worse than second..and always kept on running..i hope he heals fully.

you just don't come back after this type of knee sirgery..it could take a year for it to heal properly and then he may not have complete use of the knee.we will not see him on the track for his own good not because of greed

As much as I admire OF,I do believe the Unbridled Song's are a bit fragile. Many do not have long careers. OF was a top racehorse no doubt on that, but his running style is not conducive to winning the K-Derby. Now Papa Clem looks like a threat in the Derby. Though Win Willy finished 4th,he showed me he wasn't a fluke. He was very wide and he made some ground up. If they can get this horse a bit closer to the pace he might surprise some people. You see it isn't always the winner who moves up!

I agree, but I don't think it is only Unbridled's Songs that are fragile in the case of Jones. The horse that is intriguing to me is the lightly raced Summer Bird. With Giant Oak's defection, it looks like he will get into the Derby now. Summer Bird has only raced 3 times, and his Arkansas Derby was a bang up third. His breeding suggests that he can run all day. Win Willy is certainly not a fluke. If you looked at his race record, it was fairly easy to come to that conclusion.

Unbridled Song's offspring are fragile says who a bunch of yahoo's that know nothing. He ran his best race today. Papa Clem is very good horse. He will be dangerous in the Derby. He showed he can come from off the pace.

Papa Clem in the Derby.
Posted Apr 22 2009 12:11AM by ftheyanksandblosox
I didn't say every single one ! I basically said that a large number of Unbridled's Song's offspring do succumb to injuries that shorten their careers. That is an established fact sir!! And just so you know I am in no way a yahoo. Got it?
Posted Apr 27 2009 6:39PM by BE109
There is no doubt that other horses show fragility other than Unbridled's Songs offspring. But a good percentage his thru the years have shown the tendency to have their careers shortened due to injury. I think mrleroy1966 has misunderstood the point I was making. I never said there weren't good(they tend to be very talented),but it is an established fact that many do not last long. Yes OF ran one helluva a race, but he also suffered a career ending injury.Sadly one more example.

Papa Clem is a good horse. He ran well in California on the synthetic surfaces there. Now on dirt he has shown himself to be a worthy contender. He is definitely going to be in my betting strategy on May 2nd!

Thanks Mr Expert. Your pointing out certain instances. A large number what is the % 90, 80, 70 %. Do you have numbers to back up your claims. Come at me with numbers not just that his horses have shortened careers. Prove your claims or don't comment. I stand by my comment. Numbers sir prove it. That is your feeling not mine. Okay Got it???

Look I'm not into name calling so lets just drop that nonsense right here and right now. Now as far as a percentage, I do not have the time or the desire to research that. But I am involved in the breeding of racehorses, and it is well known amongst breeders that Unbridled Song's offspring are very talented,BUT many of them have short careers. I didn't say all of them. You may not agree but nonetheless it is a fact.

What you say is very true.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's just Unbridled's Song in this instance. I think Larry Jones runs his horses into the ground. It's a wonder how Hard Spun didn't break down. He's now running FF back in the Preakness after FF supposedly grabbed a quarter in the Derby. The public really likes the trainer, but those on the inside don't necessarily agree with the way he trains. Many also speculate that he cheats. I don't know either way.

Preakness talk time: After an unreal derby its time to get back to reality. Not to say mine that bird can't win again. But this i think is the best longshot. Papa was right there in the thick of it and had dead aim on the leaders until he found out he was in the worst part of the track. With mine that bird's rail winning bias trip. With better track conditions Papa instead of being in that 3 way photo for 2nd on derby day should be the one to move forward the most. I like papa here.

Rachel alexandra could be a special filly. But the story here could be Mel stutes son Gary. First snow chief then gary wins for his papa. LOL. It could happen

Those who said Summer Bird would be dangerous in the Belmont off this close were dead right. Nailed him at 11-1 along with the exacta, and just mised the super.

I don't think that they should have tried him on the grass at Del Mar, i don't think that many Smart Strike colts like the turf as much as dirt, i think Papa Clem should take a couple of months breezing and schooling, because I think he is a little foolish in his races. In this race he trained well i want to see him like he was in this race.

I no i had this hunch that told me to bet on Summer bird, because his sire Birdstone peaked well at the belmont time, but I was also thinking of MTB to but i thought SUmmer bird was fresh and set to go. My pick was still MTB but SB was my second. I was still pretty shocked i was right when he crossed the wire.
